This ecoregion is exclusive to Chile. Like everything else in Chile, it is very stretched out from north to south; it is shown below in red.

Adjacent ecoregions include the following: i) at its northern extremity, the ecoregion merges into the Atacama Desert (NT1303); ii) to the northeast is a short border with the Central Andean Dry Puna (NT1001); iii) to the east, down to about Santiago, it borders the light blue Southern Andean Steppe (NT0805); iv) starting in the vicinity of Santiago, the ecoregion to the east is the Valdivian Temperate Forests (NT0404) which then surrounds it to the south and west.
