- Out of Africa in Morocco (January 2026)
This ecoregion is scattered through the coastal mountains of northwestern Africa from Morocco eastward to Tunisia (see the green patches on the map below). The patches are embedded in the Mediterranean Woodlands and Forests (PA1214). In the northeastern part of the High Atlas mountains in Morocco, the ecoregion abuts the Mediterranean High Atlas Juniper Steppe (PA1010).

Description of the Ecoregion
Adapted from the ecoregion’s Wikipedia page, the ecoregion’s predominant plant communities are Atlas Cedar forests, broadleaf forests, Berber Thuya forests and woodlands, wild olive and carob woodlands and maquis, and xeric pine forests and woodlands.
