- Out of Africa in Morocco (January 2026)
This very extensive desert ecoregion forms the northern fringe of the Saharan Desert. Winter rains do sustain shrublands and dry woodlands which merge into much dryer ecoregions to the south. As shown on the map, where it is a light peach colour, it extends from Mauritania northward and eastward through Morocco, Algeria, Tunisa, Libya and Egypt.
Adjacent ecoregions include the following, from the north clockwise: i) Mediterranean Dry Woodlands and Scrub (PA1213), widely to its north, particularly in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia; ii) small purplish patches of Saharan Halophytics (PA0905); iii) patches of the reddish Mediterranean Woodlands and Forests (PA1214) in Tunisia and Libya;
